However, many company's keep it a priority to clearly keep their name aprt from their competition. Company names can be choosen for a handful of differnt reasons.

One of the most common ways of selecting a company name is to use something personal. A quick look through your local newspaper will probably introduce you to many personalised business names. Johnson Johnson, TJ & Smith, BI+L are all some examples of what could be found. One24 is another example. This really makes your business regonnizable and stand out from the crowd. This really does very little to tell your new customers what you are all about.

a describtive name is a very popular choice for a small business. This tells prospective clients exactly what your company does. An example would be to call your company something like, "The door company". This method however, does not completly set you apart from your competitors.

A less personal approach would be to use an associative and generatic company name. This type of name really helps build a connection with your consumers. This is less direct than a standard name. A brouse through your yellow pages would have endless examples. A hairdresser called Classic Cuts or a printer called Selectaprint Limited are examples of what may be found. These names usually offer some soft of differnce but do not competely set your company apart from your competition.

A company name that stands on its own can also work well. These names are not related to the company or product but are abstract. One possible fictional example would be to call your catering business Tyler's Limited. There are many popular brand names that illustrate this point. Consider, Kodak, Gillette, or Mars, these names will probably be instantly recognisable to you and conjure up a particular product or business. This is a good way of setting your company aside from the competition but it is important to consider the market that you operate in. Will your prospective clients know what your business is offering?

Choosing a name is very simple, yet it is not uncommon for people to "sleep on it" for a few weeks. It is possible to change a company name later down the road but it is best just to start off with one that satifies you. Consider how you are differnt and stand out in your local market. Once the decision is done the only ting left is success.
