What your letterhead says about your company can vary depending on what you want it to represent. Various layouts can denote strength, solidity, innovation, artistry and even counter culture attitude. But when it comes to comparing legal letterhead impact versus the impact of regular corporate letterhead, a lot of the rules don't apply. This begs the question, is legal letterhead as important as regular letterhead?

In most every respect, the answer to this question has to be yes. Letterhead is designed to promote or push the company image. Regardless of the structure of a legal office, whether it's a single lawyer in a small town or a legal group as large as the ones portrayed on "Boston Legal", each of these "entities" is a company promoting itself via its letterhead. This means that any lawyer's office is using letterhead in much the same way as Ford or General Motors does with the letterhead they use. Basically, letterhead is used for identification and advertising.

Both legal and standard letterhead brings the name of the company to the forefront. Then the name of a specific person within the company to contact especially if it's in a large company and the address info comes next. The web information for email and website can either be put under the company data or it can go across from it. Some letterhead will put that information in the bottom margin as well. In these respects, again, there's no difference between how a regular company's letterhead would differ from legal letterhead.

Some companies will use margins to list products and services they offer. Instead of leaving the margins blank, they'll take that area and actually use it as advertising. Lawyers and groups also do the same thing, especially since multi-lawyer offices can offer legal coverage for everything from divorce, disability, insurance, corporate and family law. This means that letterhead being used this way is just as important for the legal industry as it is for any other corporation.

Letterhead has purposes for both the legal profession as for the corporate world. Since lawyers offices are businesses just as much as any other business is, the purposes letterhead serves are the same. This means that, regardless of the size of the company or the law offices, letterhead is just as important for regular companies as it is for attorneys and law offices.
