You should feel pleased that you've made it this far! A fraction of the population enjoy their work and find it stimulating, but most of us complain to each other and do nothing. The fact that you're here means we can guess that you've a personal interest in re-training, so well done to you. Now you just need to find out more and then take action.

Traditional teaching in classrooms, involving piles of reference textbooks, is often a huge slog for most of us. If all this is ringing some familiar bells, find training programs which have a majority of interactive, multimedia parts. Research over recent years has repeatedly demonstrated that an 'involved' approach to study, where we utilise all our senses, will more likely produce memories that are deeper and longer-lasting.

Locate a program where you'll receive a selection of DVD-ROM's - you'll start with videos of instructor demonstrations, and be able to practice your skills in interactive lab's. You really need to look at the type of training provided by each company you're contemplating. They have to utilise instructor-led video demonstrations with virtual practice-lab's.

It's usually bad advice to choose training that is only available online. Due to the variable nature of connection quality from your average broadband company, it makes sense to have disc based courseware (On CD or DVD).

Validated exam preparation packages are essential - and really must be sought from your course provider. Be sure that the mock exams haven't just got questions from the right areas, but are also posing them in the way the real exams will pose them. It really messes up trainees if they're faced with unrecognisable phrases and formats. Practice exams can be invaluable for confidence building - so when it comes to taking your actual exams, you will be much more relaxed.

Lately, do you find yourself questioning your job security? For most of us, this only rears its head when we experience a knock-back. However, The cold truth is that our job security is a thing of the past, for the vast majority of people. When we come across increasing skills shortages coupled with areas of high demand though, we generally find a newly emerging type of security in the marketplace; driven forward by the conditions of constant growth, businesses are struggling to hire the influx of staff needed.

The computing Industry skills-gap across Great Britain falls in at approx 26 percent, as shown by the latest e-Skills study. It follows then that for each four job positions existing around computing, employers can only source certified professionals for 3 of them. This one idea alone highlights why the UK desperately needs considerably more trainees to become part of the industry. As the Information Technology market is increasing at the speed it is, there really isn't any other market worth taking into account as a retraining vehicle.

A service offered by some training providers is job placement assistance. This is designed to assist your search for your first position. However sometimes this feature is bigged up too much, for it's relatively easy for a well trained and motivated person to find work in this industry - as employers are keen to find appropriately skilled employees.

One important thing though, don't wait till you've completed your exams before polishing up your CV. The day you start training, list what you're working on and tell people about it! Getting onto the 'maybe' pile of CV's is more than not being known. Often junior positions are offered to students in the early stages of their course. You'll normally experience quicker results from a specialist independent regional employment service than you'll get from a training course provider's national service, as they will understand the local industry and employment needs.

A constant frustration for some training companies is how hard men and women are prepared to work to pass exams, but how un-prepared they are to work on getting the role they have studied for. Don't give up when the best is yet to come.
